About the MBBS Hostel for Girls & Boys

• Hostel facility is available to MBBS students only.
• Living in the hostel is not mandatory, but if after hostel allotment a student decides to leave the hostel and arrange separate accommodation, taking a Hostel Clearance certificate is mandatory.
• The college authority is bound to provide hostel accommodation to 75% of the annual student intake, but will try its best to provide accommodation to all the students without violating the guidelines.
• In case of scarcity of rooms, accommodation will be granted on a priority basis (the hostel committee will prioritize those applicants whose residential address is the farthest from this institution) by checking & comparing the documents of the students.
• The date of hostel allotment will be notified to the students by publishing the notice on the website in the NOTICE section.
• Hostel accommodation of 1st-year students is separate from the accommodation of senior students. 24-hour security service is available in each of the Girls’ & Boys’ hostels (MBBS). Both hostels are situated inside the new campus of Jhargram Government Medical College, adjacent to the new academic building where all lecture & practical classes are held.
• Jhargram Government Medical College is intolerant to ragging. Students are encouraged to speak with their mentors (selected faculties of this institution are given mentorship roles for specific students), Hostel Superintendents or the Dean of Students’ Affairs in case of any such difficulties.

How to reach the hostel

How to reach Jhargram? Please see the Contact section of the website. After reaching Jhargram, go to the new campus of the medical college. The new campus of Jhargram Government Medical College is situated approximately 600 metres from Jhargram Main Road (near Bongshi More), 2.8 km from Jhargram railway station, and 2.2 km from the old hospital campus (Superspeciality Building). All these places are well connected with local transport services. The hostel is inside the medical college boundaries.

Room Allotment

• Candidates have to apply for the hostel with the admission receipt & a copy of address proof.
• Rooms will be allotted to the candidates by the lottery method.
• After the lottery, an allotment letter will be given to the candidate bearing the signature and seal of the college authority, the details of the candidate, and the room number. Exchange or disfiguration of the allotment letter by the candidate is not allowed.
• Security staff of the hostel will permit the entry of candidates by checking the allotment letters.
• Students have to enter their names and required details in the security (Gate) register before entering the hostel.
• One person per student (Mother/Sister in the Girls’ hostel & Father/Brother in the Boys’ hostel) is allowed to enter the student’s room on the day of room allotment and stay up to 4 pm to help the student settle into their new accommodation. Guardians are not allowed in students’ rooms on any other day — students will visit their guardians in the visiting room on the ground floor on other days.
• On the first day of entering the hostel, the student should bring basic articles for their use, such as a mattress & beddings with mosquito net, mugs and buckets, utensils to eat food, comfortable modest clothing to wear inside the hostel, a white apron for classes, etc.

Facilities in the Hostel

• Each student will be provided a room to be shared with other students of the same batch.
• 1 bed (without mattress), 1 almirah, 1 study table and 1 stool will be provided to each student for their use during their tenure in the hostel, under their care.
• Common toilets and bathrooms are provided to the students in adequate numbers.
• Cleaning staff are provided to clean the shared spaces like corridors, stairs, common toilets, terrace and common rooms.
• Living rooms allotted to students and attached bathrooms (if available) have to be cleaned by the students themselves; cleaning staff cannot be forced to clean those rooms.
• The canteen is situated on the ground floor of the boys’ & girls’ hostel.

Rules

Becoming a doctor means learning a new way of life. We, the doctors, have to work in many adverse scenarios. Protecting lives with limited resources is our future responsibility. Our mental and physical health is valuable. Our friendship with fellow batchmates, juniors and seniors of our alma mater is precious and will remain for life. Security Rules

Jhargram is surrounded by forests, and some portions of the medical college campus are still under construction. Violating safety & security rules can be dangerous for a student. The Medical College Authority will do the best possible with the available resources for the security & wellbeing of a student, within the boundaries of the medical college & hospital.

• The academic building and hostels are under strict security supervision.
• Students are discouraged from moving around the campus mindlessly.
• Students are advised to follow the instructions written on the signages put up by the construction authority.
• The entrance of the girls’ hostel opens at 6 am and closes at 6 pm. Leaving the hostel after closure of the gate is only permitted in case of extreme emergency, like acute illness of a student who requires immediate access to EMERGENCY (Hospital).
• Students must sign the security register before leaving and after returning, clearly mentioning the time and cause of leaving the hostel (to college / to home / to shopping, etc). In case of going to places like a relative’s house, friend’s house, tour, etc, writing the full address of the destination is mandatory. Proxy signature is not allowed.
• Guardians are requested to sign the guardians’ register during their visit with the student, and to mention if they are taking the student with them.
• Guardians are not allowed inside the hostel. Students will visit their guardians in the ground-floor visiting area. Guest room facility is not available for the students.
• People who are neither a student nor a staff member are not allowed inside the hostel.

General Rules

• Hostel monitors will be selected from the students, who will look after the fellow students and take care of their problems with the guidance of the Hostel Superintendent.
• The hostel is a shared place to study, so don’t do anything which may disturb others.
• Cleanliness is the root of disease prevention and a good state of mind. So, clean your own rooms regularly, wear clean comfortable modest clothes, and use the dustbins properly.
• While communicating with the staff, be polite. If you have any complaint against them, inform the Hostel Monitor / Hostel Superintendent, but never act with them rudely.
• Use of any heavy electric appliance (heater, fridge, washing machine, air conditioner, etc) is prohibited inside the hostel.
• Use of fire for any purpose, and bringing & keeping any inflammable substance (like petroleum, kerosine, fireworks, etc) inside the hostel (except in the canteen by canteen people) is a punishable offense.
• Misplacing furniture — such as bringing furniture from other rooms for own use — is not allowed and is a punishable offense.
• Wastes are never to be kept anywhere other than the colour-coded dustbins.
• Pets are not allowed inside the hostel.
• Cleaning activities — like regular disposal of garbage, regular mopping of common areas with disinfectants, cleaning of weeds from the terrace, application of carbolic acid in appropriate places, and cleaning of bathrooms — are to be monitored by the Hostel monitors and reported to the hostel committee accordingly.
• Sudden or planned weekly hostel visits will be done by the Hostel Superintendents. Students are encouraged to speak about any problem they are facing in the hostel.
• Students are strictly instructed to lock their almirahs/rooms when they are not in their rooms. Students are discouraged from keeping any expensive article or vehicle in their possession inside the hostel; in case of theft of such goods, the hostel authority will not take any responsibility.
• Substance abuse inside the hostel is a punishable offense.

For Repair Works & Technical Support

• In case of malfunctioning of any electric device, switchboard, wiring, plumbing, etc, students are requested to collect the application form from the office & apply to the engineering department of the institute.
• Service will be provided for repairing only those things which are the property of the medical college.
• The applicant must attend to the technical person when they come for the repair work. In case of the absence of the student, it is the student’s responsibility to entrust a roommate / fellow batchmate with this task, and to inform the on-duty security about it.
• No electrician, plumber or any technical person from outside is permitted to enter inside the hostel.
